I am an Accountant who qualified with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.  Previously, I was an electronics design engineer, a career I followed after gaining an honours degree in electronics at The University of Southampton

chmarchAfter gaining a scholarship, I was educated at Christ's Hospital, the "Blue Coat School" at Horsham in West Sussex.  My late parents were not wealthy, and could never have afforded the school fees (they paid 10% of full-fees) and I will be eternally grateful to Christs Hospital for providing me with an excellent education and preparing me so well for life after school.

I am very keen for everyone to be given the best opportunities possible and for this reason I support grammar schools and technical colleges.

After university I worked within the then Decca Group as an electronics engineer in the Electronic Warfare division and two years later I joined EMI Electronics.  Unsure of my career choice, I changed career and then joined the EMI Records Graduate Accounting Training Scheme and qualified as an accountant three years later.

My next move was to IBM where I was a manufacturing products and systems accountant before spending ten years in Corporate Internal Audit and a further ten years in Mergers and Acquisitions.

Hobbies and Interests

It was the period in EMI Records that developed my interest in popular music and continue to attend pop concerts up until today.

Now retired, I want to pay back to society and for the past four years I have been a Havant councillor; I am currently on the Hampshire Police Independent Advisory Group.

johnplaza400I am very much against the brand of socialism promoted by the Labour Party that would bankrupt the country with excessive borrowing and promising the world to everyone; as Margaret Thatcher famously said "The trouble with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.".

Similarly, I cannot support the Conservative Party who lack compassion; do not care about ordinary people; maintain a tax regime that protects the income and assets of the rich while squeezing the poor.  The Conservative Party ideology that public service is bad and inefficient and privatisation is good and efficient is a belief I do not hold, but is one that has been savagely applied to many of the loyal hard working employees at Havant Borough Council.

There is a policy balance for which the right thing to do is what is best for the ordinary British citizen and because the policies of UKIP most closely match my beliefs.

While as a Councillor and qualified accountant with extensive business experience, I have always been fully committed to helping Havant's residents and doing what I can to support a clean Brexit, as that is best for Havant residents and the Country.

Some believe is spending vast sums of taxpayer money on their own self-promotion; I am not like that but am always pleased when residents report my help to the media.

I am committed to a clean Brexit with:

  • Parliament having absolute supremacy over all laws.
  • Britain must resume absolute and full control of its immigration.
  • The UK must resume complete control of its maritime exclusive economic zone.
  • The UK must retake its seat on the World Trade Organisation.
  • There must be no final settlement payment to the EU.
  • The Brexit process completed by the end of March 2019.

For further details on Brexit, see Brexit.

The most important policies I believe in are:

  • Education - Tory education spending cuts to Havant Schools have led to our students having the lowest percentage (17%) applying to university in the country.  This is just wrong, Havant students must be treated better and they deserve better.
  • NHS - A combined health and social care department with health care free at the point of use with a cap on Social Care costs in old age. Tory cuts to Social Care in Havant has led to bed blocking at QA and their inability to heal patients.
  • Defence - Committed to NATO with increased spending and no part in the EU Armed Forces organisation. We must rebuild our armed forces.
  • Migration - All non-UK citizens treated equally; migrants welcome to support UK needs; illegals deported with no access to UK Legal aid.
  • Other - I am vehemently opposed to fox hunting, the slaughter of badgers and the non-stunned slaughter of animals for food.
